May 15, 2018 – Today was a big day for several reasons.  First, it was graduation day for Leadership Shelby County Class of 2018.  They did an excellent job with their presentations, the projects they completed will benefit Shelby County for years to come.  Today also marks the end of a four month journey for me, to attend City Council Meetings throughout Shelby County!!!  This is a huge, wonderful county!  It has been so interesting to see what is going on in each city.  If you live in a city in Shelby County, please try to go to a city council meeting, you will learn so much.  Your local mayors and councils are working very hard to make your city a great place!  I’ve included a few pictures from the last several months.

April 10, 2018 – I attended the Advocate Awards Program & Banquet tonight.  I always cherish the opportunity to support crime victims and those who work tirelessly to advocate on their behalf. Hearing from author and survivor, Linda Coogan, was truly inspirational! Congratulations to our award recipients from Shelby County: Tracey Bettis, Casey Duncan and Lt. Sciascia.

April 7, 2018 – Mt. Laurel Spring Festival was cold but fun and then we ended the day with friends at a fundraiser supporting our local schools.

April 6, 2018 – Other than the people I worked with, the thing I miss the most about being away from the Probate Office during the election is the opportunity to preside over adoptions as a Special Probate Judge. People often focus on the happy forever family part of adoptions and forget about the contested adoptions. As a judge you must follow the law as it is written so it is very important that laws are reviewed to make sure they are revised by the Legislature when appropriate. It has been over 20 years since our adoption code was last revised. I am proud to serve with other attorneys, judges, DHR representatives and legal scholars on the Alabama Law Institute’s Adoption Committee which is responsible for drafting revisions to the current adoption code for our Legislators to consider enacting into law.30126914_221153408438620_8734865989659004_n

March 27, 2018 – Not our usual “Spring Break” activities, but we have had a great day together! Thankful for my family! I cannot thank everyone enough for offering locations to put signs and taking yard signs!!! If you want a sign please let me know and I will add you to the list!

March 23, 2018 – I was honored to speak today at the Alabama League of Municipalities Attorneys and Judges Conference on the topic of Mental Health Issues in the Courtroom. In Probate Court we routinely encounter mental health issues with respondents in court solely to address mental illness through commitments, our Municipal, District and Circuit Courts encounter people there to address primary issues unrelated to mental illnesses but have to deal with that issue as well despite it not being their primary function. This opportunity allowed me to share with Municipal Judges and Prosecutors some of the resources available to them when dealing with mental illness in the courtroom.

March 15, 2018 – I was so humbled and overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from friends both old and new at the Campaign Kickoff and Fundraising Reception hosted by Samantha Rush with the law offices of Bear Rush!  What a wonderful night!!!

March 10, 2018 – I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to help with the organization of the event and hope to have the opportunity to do more like it in the future!!!
